The Memphis suburb of Millington is studying the kind of revenue that might be brought in by adding a BMX track.

The 120,000 foot concrete track would cost the town $2million, but given the enduring popularity of BMX events, they would stand to gain that money back in commercial revenues.

From the article:

The facility would seat around 2,000 people and join DeSoto, Texas, and Albuquerque, N.M., as the only cities under ABA with covered arenas.

“The track in Texas, it’s out in the middle of nowhere,” he said. “But the tax revenue that is coming to that DeSoto area is really blossoming and you can see it in the town.”

If the BMX track is finished by next year, the city could anticipate up to 112 events in 2011 that could attract around 32,000 people, ABA officials said.

With 2000 seats in the proposed BMX arena, the revenue potential to the town of Millington is unlimited. Every event would attract people needing food, lodging, gas, entertainment… the list goes on. Small businesses in the area stand to gain immeasurably not only from the official events, but from smaller affairs where people flock in from other nearby towns.

Jamie Bestwick takes Gold at X Games 15 Vert

Pro BMX legend Jamie Bestwick took a hard tumble and knocked himself out on a tailwhip 540, yet still managed to bring in the gold at the X Games 15 in Los Angeles on August 1. His two stellar runs prior to the wipeout were enough to keep him in first place. So despite being unconscious for the last moment of the competition, he still won.

His bag of magic tricks for the comp were alley-oop whips, a perfectly nailed nosedive tailwhip 5, opposite and regular flairs and consistent flow and style.

We here at All-Day wish to congratulate Jamie on his near-perfect performance. Here’s to a speedy recovery, dude.
