UFC heading to Vancouver?

Vancouver, Canada

Vancouver, Canada

UFC officials have been in talks with the city of Vancouver, Canada and the British Columbia Attorney General on whether or not MMA can be fought in Vancouver. MMA has a huge Canadian fanbase, despite most Canadian cities barring the sport. So far Montreal has been the hub of Mixed Martial Arts in the country Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Montreal is also home to Georges St. Pierre). Currently Canada’s Criminal Code does not recognize MMA as a legitimate sport - the rules are different for the province of Quebec.

“It’s clearly a legitimate sport with legitimate athletes and as long as they’re working with the Vancouver council and a proper athletic commission, we have no problem with it whatsoever,” said BC Attorney General Mike DeJong.

UFC is looking toward Summer 2010 to stage its first match in Vancouver.

UFC 102 between Nogueira and Couture will be fought in Portland, OR on Saturday night.

Energy Drinks vs. Energy Spray

Another day, another warning about the adverse effects of highly caffeinated energy drinks. Now that it’s back-to-school season, kids are depending on drinks like Red Bull and Hype to keep them alert through long classes and homework.

“Students should be getting the appropriate amount of rest that they need, not turning to (caffeine) spiked drinks or any other sorts of drugs to stay awake,” Mr Fry said.

“(The drinks) have mind-altering effects in the short term and are not appropriate for children’s brains. They have adverse long- and medium-term effects and won’t assist people in getting smarter.”

Energy drinks provide a high-level dose of caffeine and other natural and artificial stimulants to provide a spike in energy and alertness. However, because the dose is so high, there’s always a crash when they wear off.

All-Day Energy Spray isn’t like that. It’s self-controlled dosing. Take a little or a lot (we recommend a little, as often as you need it). Because you are taking in small amounts of Xytine™ - an all natural stimulant - there is no “crash” that comes when it wears off. It just simply wears away gradually, without that heavy fatigue that comes from taking too much all at once.

BMX is Big Business

The Memphis suburb of Millington is studying the kind of revenue that might be brought in by adding a BMX track.

The 120,000 foot concrete track would cost the town $2million, but given the enduring popularity of BMX events, they would stand to gain that money back in commercial revenues.

From the article:

The facility would seat around 2,000 people and join DeSoto, Texas, and Albuquerque, N.M., as the only cities under ABA with covered arenas.

“The track in Texas, it’s out in the middle of nowhere,” he said. “But the tax revenue that is coming to that DeSoto area is really blossoming and you can see it in the town.”

If the BMX track is finished by next year, the city could anticipate up to 112 events in 2011 that could attract around 32,000 people, ABA officials said.

With 2000 seats in the proposed BMX arena, the revenue potential to the town of Millington is unlimited. Every event would attract people needing food, lodging, gas, entertainment… the list goes on. Small businesses in the area stand to gain immeasurably not only from the official events, but from smaller affairs where people flock in from other nearby towns.

Visuals “worth the price of admission”: X Games 3D

The Houston Chronicle’s movie reviewer describes the new X Games 3D movie as “over caffeinated” and the “a narrative that’s only slightly less zealous than a ShamWow infomercial”, but concedes that the visuals shot at the 2008 X Games make it totally worth the price of admission.

The film is basically an ad for ESPN, so take it with a grain of salt, and give it only what it’s due. You’re not there for the narrative - you’re there to see the ripping, grinding and total choreographed chaos that comes from the X Games.

Pro-Wrestler “Victoria” to join MMA

wwe_victoriaFormer World Wrestling Entertainment pro-wrestler and bodybuilder Victoria is said to be making the move over to MME.

The wrestler - real name Lisa Marie Varon - is 38 years old. Fresh from the WWE and going by the name “Tara” in the ring these days, she has decided to move on to the real thing: Mixed Martial Arts.

So far the the plan is still in the early stages, and no opponent has yet been confirmed for Varon.

Recent converts from WWE to MMA include Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley.

This wouldn’t have happened if he’d used All-Day Energy Spray

Saints Head Coach Sean Payton said kicker Garrett Hartley has been suspended for his use of a drug called Adderall.

Hartley told the team he used Adderall to help stay awake while driving late at night recently. He did not have a prescription and said he got the pills from a friend.

Uh huh. See, if he had just ordered a few bottles of All-Day Energy Spray and kept one in his bag and another in his car, he wouldn’t be suspended. He wouldn’t be in trouble for illegally acquiring and using prescription medication to stay awake.

All-Day Energy Spray - in any of the four great flavors: grape, cinnamon, mint or citrus - would have freshened his breath and given him a boost of energy and clarity in a safer, more legal way than Adderall ever could.

Be smarter than Garrett Hartley - order your All-Day Energy Spray today!

Birds do it, Bees do it…

beeThe bees are all abuzz. Seems like everyone is using energy supplements these days, even the busy little bees.

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is instructing British beekeepers to put out an “energy drink” for lazy bees made from water and sugar. This will rouse the bees, and remind them that their supposed to be busily pollinating flowers instead of drowsing in the honeycombs.

Bad weather has thus far been blamed for the bee lethargy.

While the mixture may be rudimentary (two tablespoons of sugar and a tablespoon of water), it clearly works. The bees are up and about again, doing their part to maintain the food chain. The same idea works for humans, though not as well. Simple water and sugar will give us a boost, but it won’t sustain us. That combo will leave us feeling more sluggish than ever once it wears off, and unlike the bees, we don’t have a hive to hide out in.

Xytine™ - the active ingredient in All-Day Energy Spray - is an all-natural stimulant that works quickly, sustains evenly, and wears off without the crash. Xytine™ is NOT recommended for bees, and should only be used by athletes, students, sports enthusiasts, nurses, truck drivers and any other HUMAN who needs a flavorful energy boost.

To find out what happens when non-humans attempt to get their paws on Xytine™, check out the Adventures of Sloth Bloy.

Let this be a warning to the bees: Keep your stingers away from All-Day Energy Spray!

Andy Kessler, Pioneer Skater, RIP at 49

A hornet’s sting brought down pioneer skateboarding legend Andy Kessler yesterday in Montauk, Long Island NY.

Kessler was an original member of the Zoo York Crew and was featured in Deathbowl to Downtown, the evolution of skating in New York. A clip can be seen below.

The Deathbowl to Downtown blog has a wonderful remembrance of Kessler:

He was salty and hard boiled like a true New Yorker should be but he was also the first guy to help someone out. I don’t mean that as a cliche like when someone dies they were all of a sudden a saint- no- Kess really helped people out. He was a sponsor to people trying to kick drugs or drinking, (he was clean and sober for years and years and then one day he quit drinking coffee and smoking cigs to boot!), he built skateparks, went to community meeting and generally tried to make New York a better place to live.

I encourage you to read all of it.

Here’s hoping you’re ripping and RIP-ing, Andy.
